I have been waiting to read this for a few months now. I helped Phalla with her cover reveal for this book back in August and have been patiently awaiting it's release. And boy was it ever a great book! For her first time out, Phella did a wonderful job of keeping my attention and hooking me into this emotionally charged story. Like an new author, there are things that could be improved upon. I would have like to have seen a little more character development with most of the main players. But there was still enough to keep me hooked and boy was I hooked by Kevin! <3

Angel is running away from a past that she is determine to overcome. The prologue starts us off with a little of her background and a mystery man who would do anything for her. As Angel starts her new life in Minnesota, where her deceased father has once had a life, enrolling at the University of Minnesota, she meets an emotionally charged Kevin who has this instant connection with Angel. As Angel is trying to figure out what exactly is happening between Kevin and herself, she finds herself at the bus stop being pulled in by a man staring at her. Roman Conti is instantaneously drawn to Angel and makes his move to make her his.

As her relationship with Roman starts to become serious, her relationship with Kevin starts to evolve in its own way. Angel is left confused not really knowing which way to turn. Now there is a cliff hanger in this one, but you are left with a little bit of a glimpse into book 2. I give this a solid 4 stars and can't wait to see more from Phalla and book 2!

really great book. first I hd read from this author but would definitely tecommend it to all my friends. awesome
This story is full of surprises, secrets, and twists. As a reader, you really don't know which man is the best til the end.
Angst filled emotional suspenseful, but fiercely bittersweet I loved it. Terrific l♥ve triangle, I know I root for. Five Stars ★★★★★
One of the male characters ( Kevin ), is the only reason I continue reading this book.
The lack of editing makes it painful to read for me.
I am only on Chapter 8 so far, will give a full review when I finish. But please get the sequel edited!!
So I looked at some of the reviews prior to writing my own. Was a bit curious to see what everyone else thought of this debut novel. First off let me say I just finished emailing Phalla to congratulate her on this novel. Now I was surprised to hear this was her debut album which made me even more giddier to review. I disagree mostly with the not so happy reviewers but in one aspect I must agree. We didnt really have her story down on the page as much as we get to find out about Kevins. Knowing that one of the mens story is entwined with Angels past was unexpected but the real shock was being surprised as to which protagonist it ended up being a part of her tumultuous past. I loved the steamy, raunchy, overly testosterone filled characters. It showed through out the entire story how Angel wanted to break pass the mold she had previously created for herself during the time she was in a truly dark place. I loved moments like those because they hit close to home, I could identify with that aspect of her indecision and the fear of choosing wrong when you let your mind wander in the matters of your heart. Kevin to me was the prince in shining tattoos, tattoos so symbolic as well as sexy. What captivated me about him was that he wasnt afraid to be real with Angel at all times no matter how crude it would come across because even though he was hiding secrets from her she still deep down knew that their connection motivated the relationship they had. Roman seems like the italian sex God coming to sweep Angel off her feet in which he does pretty much from the moment they meet. Although his overly confident and demanding self doesnt sit well with me in which he commands Angel and expects her to sit hand at foot to whatever he says. At some point during the beginning of their relationship it just seemed a bit unrealistic in my personal view on how she would allow him to demand things of her at such an early stage which is a week or so of dating that she would just drop it all to be with him while she still has school and a life to live. But other than those couple of remarks I found her characters to become a part of my mind and soul in a way I just couldnt let my eyes tear away from the pages. I did dislike the way it ended but simply because I am a hateful person towards imminent cliff hangers. All in all im a fan and cant wait for the next installment I will be sitting at the edge of my seat looking all over the internet and my emails expecting to hear anything when it comes related to Phallas next book
I really did like this story. I wanted to love it but I couldn't. I never could commit to any of the characters. I just want to slap Angel for being so weak and wishy washy. Roman and Kevin both love Angel, but I have no idea why. I have no idea why Aubry and her cousin or whatever she is is even in the book. I did get some answers at the end of the book, which led to more questions. The story is good, but has too many gaps in it for me. I'm hoping book 2 will answer them.
This could have been *just another story* with *just another romance*, and *just another cliffhanger*, but it wasn't. This book had that little something different that makes it a must read debut novel. Not at First is the kind of story that builds as you read, and once you reach the final chapters you are blown away. One twist in particular made my jaw drop. This author KNOWS how to write a good story and is one to watch-well done!

(FYI-yes, there are editing issues, but I understand that the author has gone back to revise this edition and a new version will be released very soon. This review is based on the first published version, and editing was not taken into consideration).
